Record 43% of Women Say Household Has a Gun

This, my friends, is fabulous news. We have come a long way in having (super safe) fun with our guns and in the field of self defense. There is one statistic in there that we need to work on, though. Gotta close that gender gap. Yay for women with guns in 2011- now lets push that number up in 2012!
Gallup Poll: Record 43% of U.S. women say household has a gun
The number of U.S. women who say their household possesses a gun is at a record high.
A Gallup Poll released Wednesday says 43% of American women report a gun in their home or somewhere on their property. That number is up seven percentage points, from 36% in 2010.
Men were even more likely to say their household has a gun. This year 52% of men reported a gun in their house or on their property — also seven points higher than in 2010, when 45% said so.
The gender gap is more pronounced when people are asked who owns the gun. Twice as many men as women say they own a gun — 46% of men, 23% of women.
These results come from Gallup’s Oct. 6-9 crime poll, which also found that public support for Americans’ right to bear arms has hit an all time high. When asked whether there should be a law banning possession of handguns, nearly three-quarters said they opposed such a law. A little more than a quarter supported such a law.

The statistic still rocks, though.

Hooah. Thanks for being out there and being a big part of that being a record number. Keep it growing.
you got that right! Glad to hear that more women are out there defending themselves with guns!! I impressed my husband when we first met…I told him that I was working on my 10th. Gun to add to my collecton!!!
Thank you Natalie – it’s great seeing feel-good news for a change!
I bet the women have the higher caliber.
Not just households, but WOMEN! Guns are not just for guys.
Amen!
And more than 22,000 women were issued Conceal Carry Handgun Licenses in Texas in 2010. I bet the 2011 number will be even higher.
It is great to see more people in general and more women in particular taking their own security in their hands. Police are great but cannot be everywhere all at once.
Liking this trend … a lot!
Awesome.
A gun? We have quite a collection!! And my wonderful husband has taught me safety and how to use them. I don’t worry about myself when he’s working out of town!
