Julianna was my CHL renewal instructor too. She conducted a special class, just for me. I'd signed up for a class to be held at Foot Hood, but they had not yet completed the arrangements to hold one there, and so Julianna had me meet her at Stan's gun range for the shooting test, and then I followed her back to their facility for the rest of the class.

As you said, the class was well conducted, and with only one student, we got into lots of depth on things I was interested in in addition to the required material.

I think I must not have wanted to look bad in front of the pretty lady, and shot better than I ever have. 247 out of 250 possible. Each of three "9" hits, was the first of a string, and I knew when I pulled (or rather jerked) the trigger that it was not a good shot. But as Julianne said, I "pretty much blew the center out of the target" :)

If I'm anywhere near them when the time comes to renew again, I'll definitely take my class from them.

I had a pretty good class for my original at the Bullet Hole in west San Antonio. We had mulitiple instructors, mostly the owner, but also his wife and even his daughter. Plus a couple of others, who normally function as "range masters". They have improved their facility considerably since then. Including an outdoor, but covered classroom for use when the weather permits, which in San Antonio, is most of the time.

That's interesting because I've heard from numerous sources, including people in the legal profession, that the Castle Doctrine does, in fact, extend the "castle" to the vehicle and this was done as an update to the law in 2007. Can you provide some links to sources so we can check out what you've mentioned.

Good article, but your information on "Castle Doctrine" is not quite accurate. First, Tx has had a "Castle Doctrine" for decades. The changes to Tx Penal Code Section 9.32 expanded the scope of the exemption from retreating when faced with a deadly force situation.

The "Castle Doctrine" does NOT extend your "castle" to your vehicle. Unlicensed carry in your vehicle was defined in separate legislation, referred to as the Motorist Protection Act (MPA), and added specific language to Tx Penal Code Section 46.02 (UCW) that allows an unlicensed individual to possess a loaded, concealed firearm in his/her vehicle, or directly in route to/from his/her vehicle as long as they meet four exceptions.

Otherwise, this is a very good article and we appreciate your contribution to the cause.

By the way, why does your blog reject the word "T e x a s"?
