This winter in NC seems to have been much, much colder than usual! My boyfriend and I attended several matches that I decided I just couldn't shoot because it was too cold. When my hands and fingers are so cold they begin to get numb, I start to worry that I might drop the gun or have an AD. If I get that cold, I'm not having fun, so I just don't shoot. I did buy an arctic rated Carhartt coat, and I've had as many as 4 layers on underneath that. But as you mentioned, being so bulked up then interferes with your movement. Underarmour Cold Gear clothing helps when you wear it underneath other items. I've used hand warmers and foot warmers, they also help some. I've tried using gloves, but they just seem to get in the way of a good grip, smooth trigger pull, or being able to feel the trigger reset. I'll usually wear two and perhaps three pairs of socks with insulated boots, however the cold still manages to seep into my toes, which makes them achy and stiff; this makes it very distracting and more than painfully uncomfortable when you are attempting to run a field course. I haven't yet found any one part of my body I can really keep warm when it's 32 degrees or below, or it's snowing, or winter gusts are blowing 25 miles per hour. If anyone else has any suggestions, I'd certainly love to hear them!
